Missoula Symphony - Jo May Salonen and Julia Tai - Symphony Season

Executive Director Jo May Salonen sat down with The Trail's Robert Chase to discuss the upcoming symphony season. This season will feature five masterworks series to help determine the next conductor of the Missoula Symphony.

Julia Tai, who was praised by the Seattle Times as "poised yet passionate," is up first. She has conducted orchestras around the world and spoke with Chase, too. Catch her at the Missoula Symphony September 28-29.

Montana Songwriter’s Showcase - Live In Studio (Susan Gibson, Tom Catmull, Jenn Adams, John Floridis)

"What has 30 albums, a Grammy nomination, multiple “Best Musician” awards from the Missoula Independent, a USA Songwriter Grand Prize and a Northwest Emmy Award-winning television performance? The combination of singer-songwriters Susan Gibson, Tom Catmull, Jenn Adams and John Floridis.
These four singer-songwriters began their careers in Missoula in the early and mid 1990s at the dawn of the movement toward independently produced CDs and recordings. Though they've all pursued their paths individually, they've frequently shared billing with one another, recorded together and even occasionally played in each other's bands." - livelytimes.com

The four join Tommy live in the Trail 1033 studio for some music, coffee and fun.

The Zootown Arts Community Center & Humanities Montana - Kelley Provost - “We Leave the Flowers Where They Are”

Author Kelley Provost came by to tell us about We Leave the Flowers Where They Are, a new collection of memoirs written by contemporary Montana women. For each book sold, The Zootown Arts Community Center and Humanities Montana will each receive one dollar.

The public is invited to a launch gala with the authors on Friday, September 13, at the Downtown Dance Collective, and they can join them for a panel discussion at the Montana Book Festival, September 12-15. Both of these events are in Missoula.

Missoula Art Museum - Laura Millin - Indian Country Conversations

Laura Millin is the Missoula Art Museum Executive Director, and she popped by to talk about the ongoing exhibit, Bury the Hatchet. Artist John Hitchcock's exhibit is based on the American Frontier and plays off the theme of the Buffalo Bill Wild West Show. He will be in town on Saturday, September 14th at 1 PM for a special presentation "Indian Country Conversations."
